FOREIGN TRADE UNIT VALUE INDICES - IVU III/2015
Export prices decreased by 2.1% in the third quarter of 2015
In the case of imports, there was a 14.3% drop
During the third quarter of 2015 the prices of exports from the Basque Country fell by 2.1% according to Eustat data. Compared to the previous quarter, there was a 1.4% drop.
For imports, prices posted a negative year-on-year variation of 14.3%, which is -5.5% if compared with the second quarter of 2015.
Within exports, energy was responsible for the changes in total price variation, with a year-on-year downturn of 22.2%. For non-energy exports, however, there was an upward trend in prices of 1.5%.
This performance was also seen in imports, to an even greater extent. The price index for imports of energy products fell 37.9% in its year-on-year rate, whilst that of non-energy products rose by 1.6%.
The year-on-year analysis of exports according to the classification of goods by economic destination shows a decrease of 4.1% for Intermediate Goods, and an increase of 1.3% for Consumer Goods and 4.1% for Capital Goods.
In the case of imports, there were increases in the price indexes of Consumer Goods (11.4%) and Capital Goods (2.2%) and a decrease of 17.1% in Intermediate Goods.
If the geographic areas are taken into account, it can be seen that export prices fell in the Eurozone (-7.0%), the EU-28 (-5.3%) and the OECD (-2.5%), but have remained relatively stable in the Rest of the World (0.2%). These prices fell in relation to the second quarter of 2015, above all in the Eurozone (-3.9%), but rose in the Rest of the World (1.3%).
In the case of imports, there were year-on-year downturns in prices for all geographical areas, above all the Rest of the World (-22.3%). Compared to the previous quarter, the only increase in prices was in the Eurozone (1.3%).
