The sales index of the services in the Basque Country rose by 2.7% in the second quarter of 2015
The Other Services subsector rose 4.8% and Trade was up 1.2%
The service sector index of the Basque Country showed a 2.7% nominal rise in sales in the second quarter of 2015 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to Eustat data.
Compared to the previous quarter, the sales index was up a nominal 1.4%, once any seasonal effects had been eliminated.
By sectors, the Trade sales index was up 1.2% in nominal terms, whilst for Other Services, which form part of the index, it was up 4.8% with regards to the same period of 2014.
Within Trade, the Sale & Repair of Motor Vehicles sector stood out for positive reasons, registering a nominal upturn of 12.6%. Wholesale Trade posted an upturn of 0.6%, whereas Retail Trade saw a fall of 0.5%.
Among the Other Services sectors, increases were seen in Information & Communications, with a rise of 6.1%; in Hotel Management & Catering, which saw a 5.7% upturn; in Transport & Storage, with an increase of 5.3%; and in the Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities sector, which posted 4.8% growth, whereas there was no change in Administrative Activities & Auxiliary Services (0.0%).
By province, all three posted positive rates: Álava registered an upturn of 4.5%; Gipuzkoa saw 3.1% growth; and Bizkaia posted an increase of 1.9%.
In real terms, domestic trade sales rose by 3.0% in the second quarter once the price effect had been eliminated
Within Trade, the sales index of the second quarter of 2015 was up by 2.2%, and in Other Services there was an increase of 4.4%, with regards to the same quarter of 2014 and in constant terms.
The year-on-year trends within Trade were positive for all sectors: the Sale & Repair of Motor Vehicles was up by 12.8%, the Wholesale Trade Index rose by 1.5% and the Retail Trade Index increased by 0.5%, all in real terms.
In the section Other Services, in constant euros, the sales index for the Information & Communications sector rose by 6.4%, and in Hotel Management & Catering it rose by 5.7%. The index for the Transport & Storage sector was up 4.6% and that of the Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities sector increased by 4.2%; the Administrative Activities & Auxiliary Services sector index was down 1.1%.
The index of employed people in the overall services sector in the Basque Country in the second quarter of 2015 was up by 0.4% on the first quarter of 2015, and by 1.5% with respect to the same quarter of 2014.
