Industrial activity in the Basque Country fell by 23.4% in June 2009
With respect to the previous month, May 2009, it was down by 0.1%
Industrial production in the Basque Country fell by 23.4% in June 2009 with regard to the same month of 2008 in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to EUSTAT data.
Compared to the previous month, May 2009, industrial production in the Basque Country fell by 0.1%, once seasonal effects had been corrected.

Sector evolution
By sector, and using the major industrial sector classification, the evolution of the index for June 2009 compared to June 2008 showed decreases in all sectors: Capital goods fell by 29.6%, Intermediary Goods by 27.7%, Energy was down by 6.4% and Consumer Goods decreased by 7.1%, as the result of the drop recorded by Consumer Durables (-32.9%), while Consumer Non-Durables rose by 2.8%.
Month-on-month fluctuations in June 2009, compared to May 2009, performed differently including: Consumer Goods were up by 1.7%, as the result of the increase in Consumer Non-Durables (4.9%), while Consumer Durables fell by 8.2%. Energy was up by 0.5%, while Capital Goods and Intermediary Goods fell by 0.8% and 0.2%, respectively.
Evolution by province
The pattern of the year-on-year evolution of the Industrial Production Index by province was negative in the three provinces: it was down by 25.6% in Álava, by 23.7% in Bizkaia and by 21.7% in Gipuzkoa.
The month-on-month rates, June 2009 compared to May 2009, for the three provinces were negative for Bizkaia (-1.2%) and Gipuzkoa (-0.2%), while Álava registered an increase of 2.7%.
