HOSPITAL STATISTICS 2006
Outpatient interventions were up by 7.5% in the hospitals of the A.C. of the Basque Country in 2006
Average expenditure per inhabitant on hospital healthcare came to €776, 8.4% up on the previous year
Hospital outpatient interventions increased by 7.5% in 2006, which meant that it was the care area that registered the greatest growth in the A.C. of the Basque Country, according to Eustat data. Out of the 2.3 outpatient interventions in hospitals, 97.1% were in acute hospitals (79.2% in public and 20.8% in private hospitals).
On the other hand, the increase in hospital surgical interventions should also be highlighted. The total number of surgical operations, which stood at 224,104, in hospitals throughout 2006 (62.6% in public and 37.4% in private hospitals) rose by 5.1% compared to the previous year. The 16.7% increase in the number of ambulatory surgical operations (day surgery hospital), as an alterative to hospitalisation, mainly explained this increase.
