This refers to the highest level of studies a person has reached and has now abandoned, either because the studies were completed or because they were interrupted before being finished. It therefore exclusively affects the non-student population.
The following levels are described:
Illiterate: people who cannot read or write.
Without studies: people who can read and write, but who have not carried out any kind of studies.
Infant and primary education: covering Infant Education, Early Learning at Home (aged 0-3), Nursery, Playschool, Pre-school. Primary Education, Adult Primary Education, Special Education, official music Courses (elementary cycle), previous primary studies such as Compulsory Primary Education (former EGB), Primary Education or similar studies.
Vocational: Vocational Training Courses, Vocational Modules and Training Cycles and other similar studies.
Secondary: Lower Secondary Education (former Bachillerato Elemental) or equivalent, Secondary Education Studies under the reform (former Reforma de Enseñanzas Medias), Upper Secondary Education (former Bachiller Superior) or High School Certificate (former BUP), LOGSE or LOE Baccalaureate, official music Studies (secondary level), art and language studies, University Entrance or similar.
Medium-higher: Technical engineer or Expert studies, Teacher Training, Nursing and other studies at the same level.
Higher: Undergraduate university courses, four-to-six year Degrees (former Licenciatura), Engineers holding a five-year degree or similar, third-cycle university courses, postgraduate courses, master, doctorate and specialist studies.
