This variable is only recorded for General Education. The term unit is used for Infant, Primary and Special Education, and group for Secondary Education and Vocational Training.

Group/unit is given to students who have the same class teacher and who share the main part of their timetable, even though they are separated during parts of the timetable in order to take optional subjects or for other reasons.

Sub-divisions made for languages or other subjects are not considered groups.

A mixed unit is a school unit in which there are students from Infant and Primary Education and in some cases from Compulsory Secondary Education.

Groups formed by students registered specifically to carry out Training in the Workplace are not counted as Vocational Training groups.
