Phases of the cultural cycle

The phases of the cultural cycle are:

  • Creation and productionn. . It includes all activities relating to the elaboration of artistic ideas by authors of literary and musical or scenographic works, plastic artists and craftsmen, and performers, as well as activities aimed at defining cultural products or services.

  • Manufacturing. It includes activities of reproduction of cultural property (records, videos, etc.).

  • Dissemination and distribution. It includes activities necessary for cultural products to be consumed by end-users, such as the marketing and distribution of books and magazines or music media.

  • Promotion and regulation. These are the activities carried out by public administrations to promote culture and regulate the sector and cultural activities.

  • Educational activities.They are educational activities linked to culture, such as teaching music and dance, for example.

  • Auxiliary activities. They are activities that do not produce cultural property in the strict sense, but have a cultural connotation, and activities that enable and facilitate cultural activities (manufacture and marketing of musical instruments, for example), or the use and enjoyment of cultural property (manufacture and marketing of photographic equipment or video and sound players, for example).

    These phases are common to cultural activities and activities related to intellectual property, with the exception of the promotion and regulation and educational phases, which are exclusive to the field of cultural activities.
