Manager of the agricultural holding

This is the natural person responsible for the normal daily financial and production activities of the agricultural holding.

Usually, the manager of the holding is also the holder, where the holder is a natural person. If this is not the case, the manager of the holding may be a member of the holder’s family or another person.

The holding may have one or more holding managers.

If there is more than one manager, the person who contributes the most to the management of the holding, or failing that, the oldest, shall be taken into account.

If a holding has shared ownership and is therefore jointly managed by spouses or relatives who contribute equally to the management of the holding, one person shall be selected to provide information on the variables related to the manager of the holding.

These variables are:

- Year of birth

- Sex

- Year in which they began working as manager of the holding

- Whether they have taken a training course in the last 12 months: Whether the manager has taken a training course with the aim of acquiring new skills related to agricultural activities or activities connected with the agricultural holding, or developing and improving existing skills.

- Agricultural training: This is the highest level of agricultural education obtained by the manager. The following categories are considered:

- Only practical agricultural experience: This is purely practical agricultural training, i.e. the manager gained their experience by working directly on an agricultural holding.

- Agricultural training courses: These include all courses taken with a minimum duration of two weeks, related to any of the specialisations of agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, agricultural technology, forestry, fish farming, veterinary science, or other similar subjects.

- Agricultural vocational training: This includes all completed first and second level vocational training in any of the specialisations of agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, agricultural technology, forestry, fish farming, veterinary science, or other similar subjects.

- University/higher education in agriculture: This includes all university studies completed at a university college or faculty in any of the specialisations of agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, agricultural technology, forestry, fish farming, veterinary science, or a similar discipline.

- Days worked per year on the holding:

Agricultural work is considered to be all types of work carried out on the holding, including the economic activities in the agricultural sector included in annex II of this document, maintenance of the means of production, or activities directly derived from these production tasks. (Household chores are not considered.)

Agricultural work is measured by counting the number of working days spent on the holding per year.

One working day on the holding is defined as one day of at least 8 hours of work or the sum of several days of part-time work to reach a total of 8 hours.

Work is considered full-time when 100% of the working day is spent carrying out agricultural activities on the holding (approximately 225 working days/year).
