Compulsory secondary education (ESO)

Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) is a compulsory and free level of education that completes basic education. It is made up of four academic years that are ordinarily taken between 12 and 16 years of age. It is possible to repeat two academic years at the most and, ordinarily, it is possible to remain in Compulsory Secondary Education until the pupil reaches eighteen years of age at the time when the academic year finishes. If the pupil passes all subjects, the pupils obtains the Certificate of Compulsory Secondary Education.
